At Eckhardt Dental Centre in Penticton, our dentists offer dental sedation options to help our patients feel as comfortable as we can during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to help patients feel more comfortable during dental procedures. Sedation needs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Our dentists can help determine whether dental sedation is right for you.
At Eckhardt Dental Centre, we strive to help our patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. In addition to offering sedation options, we will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the mouth and nose. This medication can calm patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. Nitrous Oxide may also help to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make a patient experience time passing more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist. These medications are taken orally in advance of a dental appointment. Oral sedation leaves you awake for the procedure, but can produce a calming effect and significantly relax you.
